There’s something about Hahndorf that makes you exhale. It’s almost as if the moment you set your eyes upon that first roadside fruit shop your body just knows… It’s time to relax and enjoy.
This is why we have the compelling urge to take every visiting pal from interstate or overseas up to our little slice of paradise. This is why we don’t doubt that the words ‘Excuse me sir, you don’t look like you’re from around here. Would you like to jump in and check out Hahndorf with us?’ have been uttered many times before. This is why we just can’t get enough of H-Town.
Another reason why we love the place so darn much is all the fun things to do up there! Here are some of our favourites:
Fontwo AKA fondue for Two
We all love Udder Delights for their creamy brie and delectable chevre but a lesser known fact is that they offer a brilliant fondue. With a few different fondue options to choose from, you will find a fondue perfect for you! I mean, it’s a gooey, melted cheese concoction that will have you ‘ohhh-ing’ and ‘ahhh-ing’ all over the place, does it really matter what food vehicle you use to get it into your mouth?
Steins R us
One does not simply head to Hahndorf without stopping by one of their famous German pubs. Whether you head to the Hahndorf Inn or the German Arms Hotel they’ll be serving up steins as big as your head. Just how we like it!
Fancy a FruChoc?
Nothing says South Aussie like getting some FruChocs in ya. Suffice to say, it was a pretty fantastic day when The Menz FruChocs Shop opened its doors in Hahndorf. Prepare yourself for every type of FruChoc known to man, as well as all the other delicious Menz goodies including the biggest freckles we’ve ever seen. Yes please!
It’s High Time for Wine Time
With cellar doors right on the Main Street, why not pop in for a taste of some of the best wine Adelaide Hills has to offer? Make sure you have a tipple of the Alta Sauvignon Blanc and the Rockbare Shiraz. Dynamite drops.
Strawberry Fields Forever
The Beerenberg Farm Shop is stocked with all the jams, chutneys and sauces a condiment lover could dream of. Plus, from November through to April you can go strawberry picking in their fields!
HOT TIP: Don’t miss the freeze-dried strawberries covered in chocolate. You’ll find them stashed at the counter and they are DE-vine.
When you’re pottering about Hahndorf, it’s best to do as the tourists do – buy some genuiiine UGGS. These bad boys are THE best quality, like, you might as well write them into your will because they have the staying power to become a family heirloom.
Talk About a Hole in One
Nothing screams ‘GOOD TIMES’ like a mini golf course and Hahndorf has a brand-spanker right off the main street. A great way to work off at least 6 of those calories consumed at lunch.
Now don’t you forget to tick a few of these off your list next visit.
