T O A S T Y
After a worryingly long summer, the sky has finally closed over and left Adelaide under a blanket of grey… Brr. As white wine turns to warming red, and remnants of past winter wardrobes are pulled out of storage, we are faced with the age-old adage – I hate everything I own!
And while we may all have one or two great investment coats for the 9-5 up our sleeves, why does it feel like there’s no middle ground for the weekend between printed, sweaty raincoats that are pretty on the outside but ugly on the inside, and overpriced, professional outdoor-wear?
Well look out Kathmandu, there’s a new kid on the puffer jacket block that is about to rain all over your parade.
Introducing Toast Society, the brainchild of Adelaide sisters Alex and Georgie Babyska. Finding a massive gap in the market between fun but impractical fashion winter pieces and serious outdoor wear, and with a desire to avoid the heavy branding that is synonymous with sportswear, the Babyskas have curated a collection of diverse puffer jackets to take you from the gym > puppy walks > brunch > beer garden wines – in comfortable style.
Alex and Georgie hope to bring a little life and colour to Adelaide in that famous ‘hibernation’ from April to August. Taking inspiration from street style from across the globe with a variety of lengths, weights, colours and details that are entirely unique, Alex questions, “why save all the fun and colour for summer days?”
Think deep, deep pockets, pom poms, faux fur collars and pastels, and of course, a number of classic black options for those #allblackeverything types.
Combining strong senses of personal style with Adelaide venues Chicco Palms and Electra House’s funky interiors for their photoshoots, the sisters present a fresh, stylised leisure offering for Adelaide winters that won’t break the bank.
My winter forecast: Pastel. Now the only decision to make is, blue or pink?
(Then again, Por qu no los dos?!)
