Unwind with us in the tropics… and get to know the real Fiji.
The glistening water is hard to beat in Fiji, so it’s not surprising that the adventurous traveller is often eager to take to the seas. Think rafting, surfing, diving, snorkelling or sailing around the unique group of islands (there’s 333 in total)! If this isn’t your cup of tea, you can take to the fairways for a hit of golf at Denarau Island’s 18-hole championship golf course or check out the vast rainforests and waterfalls on an eco-walk.
From budget stays to entire islands (yes, you can rent one all to yourself!) the options here are endless. There are plenty of five-star choices, complete with award-winning day spas, kids’ clubs and beach-front views, but for the real Fijian experience why not try a village homestay? Stay with a real Fijian family – live with them, eat with them and learn first-hand what it’s like to live as a local.

Eat + Drink
Freshly caught fish and coconuts straight from the tree are a big part of the Fijian diet – and Kokoda, a local delicacy, contains both. Made from raw fish marinated in lemon juice and served with coconut milk, it’s must-try. Also popular with locals, Kava is a drink prepared by grinding the root of the pepper plant and blending with water.
You used to have to fly around the country first before finally boarding a flight to Fiji, but thanks to Fiji Airways’ relatively new direct flight service from Adelaide to Nadi you can be there in just over six hours. Once there, you can see the sights in complete comfort on board one of the two Captain Cook Cruises seven-night Fiji Discovery cruises. Hop onboard the MV Reef Endeavour for either the Four Cultures Discovery Cruise or the Colonial Fiji Discovery Cruise. For 2019 and 2020 cruise dates visit captaincookcruisesfiji.com.
Hop on board the Reef Endeavor Discovery Tour at Denarau Marina.
