Beat the Adelaide Heat with our Top Ice Creameries

We are in the middle of a blistering heatwave in South Australia, which calls for one thing and one thing only – ice cream! Luckily, we have an abundance of gelato and ice cream joints to choose from! Take a look at our favourites below…

35 York St, Adelaide

Tucked behind Rundle St in Adelaide’s East End, you’ll find Scroll Ice Cream. The first and only outlet of its kind in Adelaide, offering Japanese teppanyaki style ice cream. Cold plates are used to thinly spread and roll up each unique flavour combination for the ultimate Instagram moment!

Must Try: Perfect Matcha

1/198/200 The Parade, Norwood & Various

Serving Australians their gelato since 2002, it’s no surprise Gelatissimo is the go-to for all the classics! Regularly delivering fun new flavours is another reason Gelatissimo makes our list. From the moment you walk in, you’ll be hard-pressed to choose simply one scoop!

Must try: New limited Frose flavour made with Chandon

The avid gelato connoisseurs amongst you might know that @gelatissimogelato launch a new flavour every month. Yesterday we popped into the norwood store to try out this month’s flavour – ME WANT COOKIE. It tastes like cookies and the ice cream cakes of our childhood. It’s also blue – a sweet little nod to the Cookie Monster – a character who was constantly overcome by his desire to smash some cookies #respect #nomnomnom Also – some other fun stuff we learnt yesterday: Gelatissimo was started by two guys who wanted to bring the flavour or Italy to Australia, they’re expanding overseas including Hawaii and Singapore, the Norwood store is going to be renovated soon and Gelatissimo headquarters are meant to be pretty epic – a gelato version of Willy Wonka. Pretty cool! #gelatissimoments #MeWantCookie #collab #gelato #cookiemonster #candystripe #norwood #theparade #foodie #instafood #icecream #adelaide #oreo #oreoicecream

87 Glynburn Rd, Glynde

In the East, discover Adelaide institution Gelato Bello. Known for its authentic Italian ice cream, offering flavours that include Baci, Bounty and Nutella (as well as the classics), it’s their sorbet that deserves a special mention – lemon is our favourite!

Must try: Toblerone gelato

75/77 Jetty Rd, Brighton & Various

There’s nothing like ice cream by the beach, and Royal Copenhagen in Brighton or Semaphore hits the spot every time! Whether you want to grab a couple of scoops and head for a stroll on the beach, or dine in and discover their amazing dessert menu while watching the sun set over the jetty, there’s something to suit all.

Must try: Apple pie crepe

78 Gouger St, Adelaide

After taking home an international award for their pear, fig and gorgonzola ice cream at the 2017 Gelato World Tour in Italy, 48 Flavours is one Adelaide ice creamery you have to try. With their wonderfully experimental and unique flavours, we can’t go past the taro flavour (pictured below) and their frozen yoghurt range.

Must try: Any of the 48 flavours!
