From a young age, media, culture and society have taught us that ‘loving yourself’ can come across as vain or narcissistic, but in reality it’s an essential part of having a healthy level of self-esteem. Our self-esteem is a great predictor of how we treat the people around us and influences the experiences we have. However, when our self-esteem is low, it can impact many areas of our lives, from our relationships to our wellbeing and health. Loving yourself is extremely important for our well-being.

So why do others struggle with practicing a bit of self-love? Are they worried about appearing vain or narcissistic? Is it a word that’s thrown around so much, and people don’t actually know what it really means?

So what is self-love and why should we all be doing it?

Self-love is about your own self-worth, your attitude towards yourself. It’s not about being vain or narcissistic, it’s about being kind to yourself and acknowledging the deeper you. It’s celebrating your vulnerabilities; it’s accepting your heart and cherishing your soul. It’s the ability to think a negative thought about yourself and let it go in passing, rather than ruminating over them more than they need.

Self-love is an attitude and it’s something that should be encouraged. Having a healthy attitude about yourself is an attribute that will benefit not only you, but also everyone around you.

Here are my Top 12 Self Love Tips to help you along your self-love journey:
