Ever thought about becoming a pinup? Make it happen with a glamour session at local vintage pinup photo studio, PaperPashes.
Photography Kirsty Burns
When you step inside the PaperPashes studio in Croydon you are transported to a fantasyland. This is unlike any other experience – it’s glamour, make-believe and complete pampering all rolled into one.
At her core, owner and founder Fiora Christou, is a photographer. “My life changed when I was diagnosed with chronic lymphotic leukemia,” she says, “and I decided life was too short not to live your passions.” She’s been a photographer ever since, opening Adelaide’s only pinup-style studio two years ago. “The aim is to make it fun and memorable, and of course for you to leave with some beautiful images,” says Fiora.
The session starts a week before your shoot at a complimentary consultation, where the PaperPashes team talk to you about what you want to achieve from the shoot. You’ll also get to browse through the beautiful costume options (these range from 50s -inspired vintage dresses and boned corsets to retro lingerie and even a hand-sequinned mermaid outfit!) so that the experience is specifically tailored to you and your style.
On the day of the shoot hair and makeup artist, Gaetana, gets to work with spectacular results. Music will be playing (your playlist, supplied to the team the week prior), and lunch will be provided. Want a wine? There’s that too!
“It’s all about having fun,” says Fiora, who includes two to three costume changes per client. Footwear, accessories and lingerie are all provided.
The studio’s clients range in age from 18 right through to 60, and it’s also popular with couples, and mums and daughters. “We do a fun kitchen tea mock-up, which is great with a group of girlfriends – it makes a unique hen’s!”
