High Tea at The Hilton

We often go out for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday, but less often do we take advantage of the time between lunch and dinner. Although afternoon tea seems to have taken a backseat to brunch these past few years, may we suggest a change?

The British tradition of High Tea is a luxury once reserved for the wealthy, but The Hilton makes it exceptionally easy to indulge.

Served on weekends between the hours of 1pm and 3pm, The Hilton’s High Tea experience offers 4 plates of home-cooked sweet and savoury treats, La Maison Du The tea, coffee, and a glass of sparking wine. And you needn’t consider yourself ruling class to enjoy it, as it costs a total of $49.

You may order whichever La Maison Du The tea you fancy, or even a selection. While we chose a more traditional English Breakfast, other herbal loose leaf teas like peppermint and chamomile are also available.

The savoury side plate features house-made pork sausage rolls, herb chicken salad brioche sandwiches (the texture is something otherworldly), and mini poppyseed bagels with avocado and a generous serving of smoked salmon.

On the top tier sits a passionfruit macaroon, a tiramisu macaroon, two chocolate eclairs, and two lemon meringue tarts topped with fresh raspberries and edible flowers.

The second tier is filled with two of each cake; while the hazelnut Paris brests remind us of Ferrero Rochers, the French opera cakes are layered with almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, ganache and coffee French buttercream, and covered in a chocolate glaze. The latter might have been our favourite, if not for the strawberry and vanilla red velvet cakes, which were soft in texture and delicately subtle in flavour.

Finally, the light and fluffy plain and fruit buttermilk scones with home-made strawberry jam and freshly whipped cream are the perfect end to a thorough gastronomic adventure.

We enjoyed the High Tea in a party of two, which made for a truly special and intimate experience, though we were sat next to a table of 5-6 women who we couldn’t help but notice had an uproariously fantastic time. In the chic setting of The Hilton, this High Tea is guaranteed to impress any and all of your most treasured family and friends.
