Beauty Bar; Yard’s Hand-Care Hustle with Courtney Alderson
Meet owner of Yard Skincare, Courtney Alderson, for a rare self-care experience. Courtney will give you an eco-paraffin wax session, followed by a hand and forearm massage using adaptogen-infused products that will help soothe aching joints, increase circulation, and promote a more youthful appearance.
Q: How long have you been producing your skincare range in Australia, and why is it important to you to make locally?
A: The seed of Yard Skincare was planted a long time ago, but it wasn’t until I had my eldest son that I actually had the time to think, plan, research and formulate products. He’s six years old now.
I think it is so important to keep business local. Yard Skincare is rooted in the local community, from sourcing ingredients and equipment, to providing opportunities for locals to interact socially or simply by being one of our beautiful customers. A visit to a local business or market stall is more than a shopping trip. It’s a way of coming together, to communicate and share. Local businesses are key in keeping South Australia boutique, community focused, and unique, whilst also helping local makers and producers.
Q: What is an eco-paraffin wax session?
A: In keeping with Yard Skincare’s ethical values, we sourced a product that was eco-friendly and plant-based as opposed to paraffin wax which is commonly made from petroleum by-products. Our product is deliciously rich with plant oils, butters and scented with essential oils. It will be warmed and applied to the hands, which are then wrapped for a few minutes before removing. The experience makes the skin appear more youthful, brighter, supple and soft, adding moisture to the skin, and it continues to boost the moisture levels of the skin after the treatment.

Workshop; Close and Personal with Designer Cristina Tridente
Join local couture designer Cristina Tridente of couture+love+madness for champagne and cupcakes as she gives an exclusive presentation of her new collection of stunning couture pieces.
Q: What inspired your new collection?
A: The new collection is called ‘La Marièe’ which translates to ‘the bride’ in French. All of the pieces are designed with a different bride in mind. We have pieces for the classic bride, but also modern pieces and a couple of real showstoppers. The question is ‘what kind of bride are you?’ – that’s what we are asking our clients this season. We are aiming to have a variety of styles to appeal to all different kinds of brides and personalities with exclusive fabrics and beautifully cut silhouettes. We want you as a bride to stand apart, to look unique, feel amazing in your dream gown and, most importantly, we want your gown to capture your personality.
Q: How long have you been working on the new collection?
A: It’s been in the back of my mind for almost a year. I have been collecting ideas and concepts along the way and was really excited to sit down and bring them all together.
Q: What is your favourite thing about having your studio on The Parade?
A: It feels like home! Something has always brought me up to The Parade even though I live on the other side of town. I first came up this way to go to high school (Loreto College), then I worked at Council for 4 years running the Adelaide Fashion Festival. When this property came up, it was a dream come true. I always wanted bay windows, high ceilings and a beautiful shop front. I feel so lucky to be a trader on The Parade! Everything is made from scratch in our studio. We not only have the store front, we have two design rooms and a store room on site – it’s the perfect space!
