When one goes to the races at Morphettville, it’s an occasion to look your best. But for those whose sights are set on looking The Best, one of this year’s Fashions on the Field judges, Maree Hopgood from Girl About Town, gives us some advice.
How does one enter Fashions on the Field?
You can register yourself online here, or on the day from 10am to 12pm on the Main Lawns at Morphettville Racecourse.
In judging Fashions on the Field, what do you look for in a winning outfit?
I’ll be looking for someone that dares to be different, oozes confidence, and knows their personal style and works to it. As the famous Yves Saint Laurent said: “Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
Can you give us some advice on how to put together a great race-day look?
You need to think about every aspect of your entire look – colours, cuts, fabrics, styles, as well as the appropriate millinery and accessories to compliment the outfit. Then, once that is sorted, you need to think about your hair and makeup, another very important accessory, as this can make or break the overall look in my opinion.
What’s your favourite part of being a judge?
This will actually be my first time officially judging Fashions on the Field, but I’m always intrigued by how people put racing fashion attire together, as I just love the whole process. Getting dressed up for the races is my favourite part of the day!
